FREE PICK-UPs

Annual Recycling Pick-up

FREE (January through December), households and businesses within El Cerrito can arrange an Annual Pick-up for certain materials to be collected at curbside. Only residents and businesses with active solid waste accounts are eligible for these services. 

  • Recycling Pick-up – Contact El Cerrito Recycling at 510-215-4350 or email them to schedule a pick-up, typically scheduled to occur on a Thursday between 8am and 4pm. Arrange at least one week in advance.

Items Accepted for Recycling Annual Pick-Up

  • 12 bags / bundles of sorted recyclable materials (Paper, Bottles, Cans, etc.), no heavier than 25 lbs. each, in clear or paper bags or boxes; and
  • Bundled Cardboard*, no larger than 36×36 inches; and
  • 1 large electronic item (like an old TV or Monitor) or 3 small ones (CPUs, Phones, etc.)

 

*Loose cardboard is not accepted and are not responsible for cleaning the street if materials are improperly bagged or bundled.

Items NOT Accepted for Recycling Annual Pick-up (partial list):

  • Appliances including Refrigerators & Air Conditioners
  • Carpet
  • Clothes / Textiles – Please bring to the Recycling Center’s Donation Station, Eco Salvage or utilize the USagain bins
  • Wood
  • Styrofoam / EPS #6
  • Mattresses, Box Springs
  • Wooden Bed Frames and Furniture
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), for example: paint, chemicals, ballasts, smoke alarms, gasoline, etc.
  • Fluorescent tubes and CFLs: Fluorescent tubes and CFLs from residents within the RecycleMore service area are accepted at the El Cerrito Recycling Center.
  • Styrofoam / EPS #6. Styrofoam peanuts are best reused and can be taken to some shipping stores.
  • The City is no longer able to accept appliances. Click here for disposal options.

Free Residential Pick-up of Large Items or Extra Trash/Green Waste

Up to two (2) times per calendar year each residential service recipient is entitled to receive large item collection — at no additional cost and expense — amounting to a combined annual maximum of  the equivalent of:

a) Eight (8) large items

OR

b) Twenty-five (25) 32-gallon bags, boxes, or tied bundles

Large items include such things as furniture or appliances.
32-gallon yard waste or trash bags. Yard waste MUST be in paper bags only. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.

Free Commercial Pick-up of Large Items or Extra Trash

One time per calendar year each commercial service recipient is entitled to receive large item collection— at no additional cost and expense — amounting to a combined annual maximum of  the equivalent of:

  • Four (4) large items

        OR

  • Twelve (12) 32-gallon bags of trash (only)

 

Large items include such things as furniture or appliances.

Free Multifamily Dwelling Pick-up of Large Items or Extra Trash

One time per calendar year each multifamily service recipient is entitled to receive large item collection per unit (with a maximum of 20 unites total) — at no additional cost and expense — amounting to a combined annual maximum of  the equivalent of:

  • Four (4) large items

        OR

  • Twelve (12) 32-gallon bags of trash (only)

Free Drop-off Options

The following services are available to you at no cost and are provided by the City of El Cerrito based on rates charged to all homes and businesses for the collection of solid waste by East Bay Sanitary. Only residents and businesses with active solid waste accounts are eligible for these services.

  • Convenient and free drop-off recycling of a wide range of materials at the El Cerrito Recycling Center
  • Free drop-off of Household Hazardous Waste at WCC HHW Facility in Richmond
  • Free curbside collection of HHW for seniors and the disabled
  • Special Recycling Events:
    • Periodic electronics recycling collection events
    • Biannual citywide garage sales

East Bay Sanitary is the ONLY hauler authorized to provide debris box service to the city of El Cerrito for residential and commercial pick-ups and construction & demolition projects.

We are able to haul extra waste, bulky items including furniture, mattresses, refrigerators, and other larger items, for a fee. We will recycle these items whenever cost efficient and pass the savings on to you.
